Back to School

I'm teaching a night class at the community college this semester. I taught over the winter and enjoyed it as much as you can enjoy freshmen writing. I didn't think I'd be able to teach this fall because of our car situation, but they added a night class and asked me if I wanted to teach it. Huzzah! It's going to be a three-hour marathon but only once a week. Tomorrow is the first day and my syllabus is ready. I'm pondering about how to come down as a hard-nose so that my students are more timely about finishing assignments and not missing class this time around. Any ideas?

I'm going to show this clip.

Ryan and I have long discussed what a college professor should wear. We think I should mainly stick to dark, muted tones and lots of layers. Lots of black drapey things, maybe a shawl, a long dark stretchy skirt, maybe a scarf, definitely some reading glasses. Probably some dark striped socks and black chunky shoes underneath. Possibly lots of silver jewelry and bangles. If only I was male and could go with a walking stick and pipe.

Cross your fingers that I don't get any students who will put www.google.com in their Works Cited list!

  1. That movie is pretty hilarious. I think the computer generated voices add the perfect touch.
